IYNAUS Committees
What Are the IYNAUS Committees?
In addition to a small staff, volunteer committees help run the day-to-day operations of IYNAUS.
IYNAUS committees consist of one or more officers or members of the Board of Directors. The Board appoints the chair of each committee, except for the Assessment Committee. The chair of the Assessment Committee is a paid employee.
Each member of the Board of Directors is expected to serve actively and may also chair one of the IYNAUS committees. Other committee members include CIYTs and general members. Each committee member serves a three-year term and may serve one additional three-year term. Each IYNAUS committee adopts rules for its own governance, provided those rules are consistent with the IYNAUS Bylaws.
Archives Committee
IYNAUS promotes the art, science, and philosophy of Yoga according to the teachings of Yogacharya B.K.S. Iyengar. The purpose of the Archives Committee is to create a digital archive of photographs, videos, articles, and other media to:
a) preserve these teachings,
b) document the history and development of Iyengar Yoga and
c) serve as a reference library for studying and promoting Iyengar Yoga for generations to come.

Assessment Committee
The Assessment Committee develops guidelines for the training and certification of Iyengar Yoga teachers. The committee coordinates and oversees assessments and provides a forum for grievances about the certification process.

Continuing Education Committee
The Continuing Education Committee fosters the growth and development of CIYTs and IYNAUS general members while supporting the IYNAUS mission to promote the art, science, and philosophy of yoga according to the teachings of B.K.S. Iyengar.

Events Committee
The Events Committee shall recommend to the Board sites for National Conventions held every three years. The Committee shall assist in the structure and planning and choose the principal coordinators for the National Conventions. The Committee organizes online workshops and events throughout each calendar year. The Committee will interface with those of other committees, particularly the Regional Support Committees and the Continuing Education Committee, by fostering an open line of communication for support and assistance in planning events or workshops.

Finance Committee
The Finance Committee oversees the finances of IYNAUS and advises the Executive Council and the Board on all matters relating to the corporation’s business and financial activities. The committee prepares an annual budget for IYNAUS for presentation to the Board and the membership. The Treasurer serves as chairperson of the Finance Committee.

Governance Committee
The Governance Committee is charged with helping establish and populate the Board, Executive Council, and Committees, complying with the articles and bylaws, and updating the governing documents as necessary or appropriate.

Yoga Equity Committee
The Yoga Equity Committee plans educational events and sponsors initiatives that further the IYNAUS goal of teaching and making yoga's ancient art and science accessible to everyone. IYNAUS has charged this committee with the critical mission of bringing greater diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice to Iyengar Yoga in the United States and, by example, the rest of the world.
