2010 Convention
IYNAUS is seeking an appropriate venue for the 2010 Iyengar Yoga Convention. Please contact Gloria Goldberg, Events Chair at www.iynaus.org/contact if you think your city and area would be a good place for this event. The criteria for a good venue includes proximity to a major airport, preferably in an area where there is a senior teacher, has a strong volunteer base in the community, a venue that can accommodate and cater to a group of minimum capacity of 400 with a maximum of 1000 and would be an attractive or inspiring area.

B.K.S. Iyengar is widely considered to be the world's greatest living yoga teacher and, more than any single person, responsible through his work for the huge popularity of yoga in the West. In 2004, Time magazine named him as one of the 100 most influential people in the world. This great teacher visited the United States, marking fifty years after he first came to us to spread the universal and vast message of yoga. In his role as a teacher, Iyengar has shared his exploration of the eight limbs of Patanjali's Astanga Yoga and his phenomenal understanding of the body and the mind with yoga practitioners throughout the world. His teaching has influenced tens of thousands directly, and his books many, many more. Tens of thousands of people attended sold-out events across the country.

Hundreds of Iyengar centers across the United States celebrated in a day of unity by performing Tree pose for 3 minutes on September 18th at 3:00 EDT.
B.K.S. Iyengar has said of his first visit to the United States in 1956:
"I never dreamed in my life that my method of yoga would spread to so many places... I came to teach 3 students... It has grown into a gigantic tree of yoga."
